We all can agree that drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and more can be art. Art is similar to music and literature. They're collectively known as "the arts." These are works created (or performed) by artists. Society holds artists in high esteem because art is expression. It can be just pretty pictures you make, or it can show you the artist's raw emotion. Either way, art is an expression of thoughts and feelings (good or bad). The person who views the art can appreciate what the artist is saying (or at least interpret it for themselves).
The artist might be saying, "The world is rotten," but the person looking at the artist might have a completely different interpretation of the art. Either way, the art is making a connection with the person that views it.
Books and plays are literature. So are comic books (AKA graphic art), TV series and movies. The only reason that those other things are not taught as literature is because of snobbery, in my opinion. Computer/digital art is still art. AI art is art. I know a lot of people aren't going to agree with that last one.
Look, I know that there are many negative things about AI. It's hurting the environment. It steals ideas and works from artists. It can be used for fake news and fake photos. So could Photoshop, and yet that's an indispensible tool for artists. This photo above was made with a website that can take any photo and make it look like a drawing. Well, it's my photo, and I'm the one in the photo, so I think I can safely say it's my call to use my drawing/photo on my site. You'll notice that I've labeled it so that you know I didn't draw it. I have friends who make some extra money by making digital art, using AI. These people are not untalented. They're able to take suggestions and use their own imaginations to create art. There's nothing wrong with that, either.
My B.A. at Stony Brook was in Liberal Arts, with concentrations on English, Music and History. Music, literature and art are my passions.
I've been drawing a long time, but I've only recently been learning about painting and photography. I'm definitely a beginner. I hope you can appreciate my nascent efforts.
